If you have targeted your customers properly, there will be few better or more productive business lead generating tools than to publish a "Tip of the Day" related to the education of your audience in your chosen niche.
Why? Simply because people want to be educated.
They come to the Internet for information in their niche. You can provide what they will consider to be very valuable bits of information learning and assistance.
It doesn't matter what niche your business deals in - there will be numerous tips that can be given.
Tips can include how to do something, how to use a piece of specialized equipment, where to go, how to find something, books to read, web sites in the niche to visit, news and events in the industry, and many other short, brief tidbits that will educate your readers.
Get a little creative here - it may not be appropriate to call your suggestion a "tip." Instead, maybe you will publish a "resource" or a "quote" or a "tidbit" or a "note" or "suggestion," etc . . . you get the point.
If you can't come up with a tip for each day, call it "Tip of the Week."
The more often you publish, though, the greater will be the visibility of your site and ultimately your business.
If your customers complain, or don't want to hear from you on a daily basis, you can always scale back to once a week or twice a month, or whatever you deem appropriate.
I would suggest publishing this regularly scheduled tip on your web site as a means of drawing customers and prospects back to your site often.
You can also put this strategy into overdrive by including an RSS link so that others can publish your tip on their web site or have it sent directly to their news reader on a regular basis.
I have also seen tips like this sent in a daily emails to customers.
You'll have to decide if you want to do this because email boxes these days get filled with so much spam that you may not want your business to be perceived as being part of that problem.
Sending a daily email will take a bit more effort than a simple post to a web page or a blog.
You could set up a month's worth of tips into a sequential autoresponder to save yourself some time so that you don't have the sending chore to deal with everyday.
Tips can also be placed in monthly newsletters or even become the sole focus of a top level domain that is operated to send traffic to your main web site or as a source of registrations for your business customer list.
In addition, I have seen java scripts that are specifically made to scroll or publish tips on a web page. They are free to use (some may have other advertising attached) and can be found at most any script collection site online.
You may think this strategy is too time consuming - it takes too much effort for the response it gets. Here are the reasons I feel a "Tip of the Day" is worth the effort:
1- The chore can be largely automated. You set it up initially, and then just add daily tips in a data file to be published automatically.
2- Anything you can do to draw customers back to your site on a regular basis will add to your overall marketing effort.
3- Your tip will be viewed by your customers and prospects as a valuable and welcomed resource.
4- Your tips will help to add to the professionalism and credibility of your business, your web site, and brand you as an expert.
5- Tips can be compiled into a collection that could become the basis for an ebook or other backend product that you can later sell.
6- Tips that get published on other people's web sites (that refer readers back to your site) are just like free advertising for your business.
7- Tips can include your "soft sell" recommendations for products that can be purchased at your site.
8- Tips that carry your active URL become back links to help with your site popularity in the search engines.
All in all, I would strongly recommend that you look into publishing some sort of frequent daily or weekly information like a "Tip" that will be seen and promoted by customers in your niche.
It's a great marketing tool!
